Still riding the high from Sonic Bloom, we begin planning for Arise. Who am I kidding; we were talking about Arise while we were still there. With headliners like Tipper and Beats Antique it feels like a backyard Bloom. Only an hour north of Denver, a short drive for even the Dragomi art car, Arise throws a hell of a party.
Last year’s headliners Slightly Stoopid and Thievery Corporation emitted a much more laidback vibe than you expect at many “music festivals” these days. Stick Figure even brought out their tour dog, Cocoa, on stage looking super chill. This year’s re-addition of Tipper will certainly be an increase in cosmic energy and a similarity to what I imagine the AREA 51 parties are going to be like. Railroad Earth and Leftover Salmon will definitely bring the bluegrass vibes to our Sunday night lineup. I’m personally super excited to party with Defunk, CloZee, Marvel Years, Evanoff and get weird with GOOPSTEPPA. Fingers crossed for a live collab of Homemade Spaceship and Maddy O’Neal who have a new track coming out on 7/31 on MHSM Records, stay tuned!
The Arise lineup includes a wide range of artists, activities, and even art workshop combinations like “Behind the Artist and Painting Techniques” with MPEK, a graffiti artist from Mexico who covers many walls in Denver with his unique art style that I can only describe as Aztec alien animals that drank some ayahuasca. Teach me your secrets! Kevin of SunSquabi and Maddy O’Neal will be leading a talk at the Big Sunrise Dome titled Breaking It Down: Unveiling Electronic Production. These types of connections between the artists and attendance are something very unique to intimate festivals like Arise. Locals like SunSquabi have highlighted the lineup multiple times through the years and their shred heavy sets keep me coming back year after year. I expect serious guitar shredding during Voodoo Dead and The Main Squeeze as well. I’ll be bringing my air guitar to those sets. This lineup is stacked with amazingly talented artists of every genre. Running full steam ahead and just a couple weeks away, Arise 2019 is a celebration of all things Colorado. Music. Yoga. Camping. Art. Community. See you there!
