ARISE Music Festival 2017 – MHSM Recap & Review

The 5th year of the Arise Music Festival was a magical experience for all in attendance. Fulfilling their schedule packed with music, transformational workshops, a weekend long hangout with incredible people, the festival stepped above and beyond our expectations. The rain didn’t dampen any of our spirits, and luckily we only experienced a few scattered showers throughout the whole weekend.

The beginning of most festivals starts out the same, everyone is in a hurry to get there for the fun, then we have to wait for hours in line just to get in and set up camp. The staff at Arise this year was fully prepared to make the expected horrendous wait quick and efficient. Usually having to wait a couple hours to figure out what’s going on to get in at most festivals, this years’ wait was under an hour for the early Friday arrivers. A fury of campers unloaded their camps, popped up tents, threw out their chairs and kicked back to wait for the Friday lineup to begin.

Kruza Kid & Abstract Rude – The Owls Cry Tour

Originating from Colorado, Kruza Kid is coming in fresh to the National Hip Hop scene in the upcoming weeks. He is supporting Abstract Rude during his ‘The Owls Cry’ Spring tour across the midwest. Abstract Rude’s soulful lyrics and dedicated presence in the scene, has made him a hip hop veteran. The tour kicked off in Colorado on March 8th, at the Boulder House. This mindful hip-hop journey will take them from Colorado through New Mexico, into Texas for SXSW for a few shows in the “Live Music Capital of the World”, and continuing on through Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas.

Merging the sounds of his voice with many elements including live looping and transcendent beats, a Kruza Kid set is truly one of a kind. A spiritual gangster, with conscious lyrics producing extra terrestrial hip hop. He has been in the studio, for the past year and half producing his upcoming album “Gemstyles.” Working alongside many co-members of The Mile High Sound Movement, DMVU, Project Aspect and Unlimited Gravity, the new album will move your body and your mind. Sonic Bloom Brings Music & Art Lovers Together In Colorado Under The Unified Field

Colorado’s premiere electronic music festival, Sonic Bloom, had it’s 11th annual gathering this past June, and this music and art filled extravaganza packed a whole new kind of punch this year. For the second year, the festival returned to Hummingbird Ranch just outside of Rye, Colorado. A mega-stacked lineup full of Bloom favorites such as Tipper (2 sets) and The Opiuo Band, as well as Bonobo (DJ set), EOTO, Break Science and Wick-It The Instigator. The amount of local talent practically covered the entire spectrum of West Coast electronic music, courtesy of the best in the Colorado music community. As eclectic as the origins of the headliners are, the core of this festival is supported directly by the natives of the magical state of Colorado, those who rep it on their sleeve day in and day out in the studio and on stage. Some of the highlighted Colorado acts who performed were Michal Menert & The Pretty Fantastics, SunSquabi, VibeSquaD, Bass Physics, The Reminders, Mikey Thunder, SoDown, Cloud-D, Dynohunter, Templo, Skydyed, Cualli, The Dirty Gemstones, Lily Fangz, Evanoff, Tnertle, Godlazer and a surprise performance by Unlimited Aspect.

The Colorado based artist collective and record label, The Mile High Sound Movement, is no stranger to this Summer tradition, as numerous artists that are part of the collective have been prevalent within this year’s lineup and previous years as well. The MHSM members and bass music engineers Ronnie Weberg and Jay Jaramillo, aka Unlimited Gravity and Project Aspect, became a part of this event’s journey in 2008. This was just the starting line for this grassroots collective of now over 30 artists, which is proven by their relevancy within Sonic Bloom’s array of talent over the years since it’s origin.
