ARISE Music Festival – An Inside Look [MHSM Blog]

This August 5-7, Colorado will once again become home to the fourth annual ARISE Music Festival. Commonly referred to as “Colorado’s best music festival,” this co-creative event is well known for booking top talent from across the globe and setting the stage for Colorado’s leading musicians. Featuring over 200 performances across 7 stages, the festival highlights a diverse lineup of genres which span from hip-hop and reggae to bluegrass, jam and a healthy serving of electronic music. This year’s headliners include Ziggy Marley, Jurassic 5, Papadosio, Elephant Revival, Rising Appalachia, Wildlight, Phutureprimitive and a gamut of other top-class artists. The Mile High Sound Movement was honored with the opportunity to talk with Anthony Thogmartin of the genre-bending alternative rock group, Papadosio who will be closing out The ARISE Music Festival on Saturday night.

Our Chat With Anthony Thogmartin From Papadosio

MHSM: “Coming fresh off of the band’s first headline performance at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado, how does it feel to return to the state so soon with a highly anticipated performance at the Arise Music Festival?”

AT: “Colorado might be the state with the most populated and passionate music scene. We find ourselves there performing music, visiting friends and family, and exploring the great outdoors many times in the year. We love playing shows for such enthusiastic people, always a privilege and a pleasure.”

MHSM: “Any new music releases in the works for 2016?”

AT: “Yes we are taking a brand new approach to studio music creation and looking to release an instrumental EP in the fall!”

MHSM: “With half of 2016 gone already, what are you looking forward to most with the second half of this year?”

AT: “With our new EP on the horizon, we are moving more and more into a new era in live performance and improvisation. We are striving to become better and better at creating unique and engaging shows that really push the envelope of what is possible from a live band using live instruments.”

Papadosio fans should also look out for Anthony to release his first solo album “Sun Path” on July 29th from his ‘EarthCry‘ solo project.

Papadosio Live At Red Rocks on May 7th, 2016

In addition to Papadosio, The ARISE Music Festival will host an array of talented musicians which span most every genre in the books. Hip-hop legends Jurassic 5 will start out the weekend with an energetic set on Friday night and reggae legend Ziggy Marley will help close out the festival on Sunday before an improvisational experience with the Everyone Orchestra.

Attendees have the opportunity to reconnect with their roots as they take in a set from folk all-stars Elephant Revival and enjoy multiple performances from global folk activists, Rising Appalachia. After an opportunity to reconnect with traditional sounds and songwriting during the day, the crowd has the chance to cut loose and get wild with the most cutting edge artists in the current electronic music scene. Names like Wildlight, Phutureprimitive, Govinda, and CloZee are sure to be the talk of the town after the event is over. Progressive electronic artists, Dirtwire even have the honor to bring on additional musicians on stage like David Satori (Beats Antique) and Evan Fraser (Hamsa Lila; BOLO). Collaborative sets and unexpected turns are inevitable in a cultural melting pot and visionary epicenter like The ARISE Music Festival.

MHSM Artists Performing At ARISE Festival

Always an integral part of Colorado events such as ARISE, The Mile High Sound Movement is proud to present a select number of growing artists into this energetic swirl of creativity and light. Dominating the live electronic music scene, Colorado’s DYNOHUNTER are proud to help open the festival on Friday night with an inspiring set full of live instrumentation, knee-shaking bass and stunning use of the mighty saxophone. Finding their way into multiple top-level music festivals over the summer (such as The Untz Festival, Sonic Bloom, ARISE, Reunion Festival, and Joshua Tree), this group is solidifying themselves in the current live music scene.

Blossoming producer, Lucid Vision may be a new name on your musical index, but it will surely prove to be one utilized over the next few years. Debuting at his first ARISE Festival, Lucid Vision has his finger on the trigger and his eyes on the prize. Quickly gaining recognition for his stunning production quality and high-energy live guitar solos, this young star has been lifting eyebrows and shaking hips since the moment he first stepped on stage. Keep an eye out for a big Denver show announcement in the near future.

Last, but not least in the MHSM list of must-see performers at ARISE is Chicago-native and current Denver local, Homemade Spaceship. Harnessing the power of time and space, this electro-funk astronaut has traveled the stars to bring psychedelic glitch-hop to the heart of Colorado. Serving a special recipe of live guitar and synthesizers, Homemade Spaceship will surely launch you into orbit.

In addition to all of the top-class musicians at The ARISE Music Festival, this event is renowned for hosting some of the best workshops, yoga classes, and presenters in the country. Each year the event brings in respected yoga instructors, visionary film directors, and social activists in a single field to educate and enlighten the masses. Musicians and speakers are distributed amongst the grounds to give attendees a unique, one-on-one experience that cannot be replicated anywhere else.

The amazing Playshop Sessions are a series where attendees can get up close and personal with their favorite musicians. Part performance and part storytelling, Playshop Sessions allow for a very intimate and unique experience as participants and artists engage in a variety of musical topics from songwriting to performing to learning more about how each musician expresses themselves through their instruments. Some of this year’s playshop artists include Elephant Revival, Mike Love, Ayla Nereo, T Sisters, Eddie Roberts, Jennifer Hartswick, Natalie Cressman and many more.

Great write-up, pics, links, videos, and insider knowledge. This is everything you really need to know about Arise!! I LOVE the vibe of these smaller
    transformational festivals. Arise is one
of the most tolerable and straight-up friendliest of festivals. You’ll be completely hooked once you’ve
experienced the feeling that everyone is your friend before you’ve even met and
thus introductions are paired with hugs instead of handshakes or suspicious
looks. The only festival in the whole USA I’ve found that keeps that feeling
after getting large is Lightning in a Bottle. Surprisingly somehow the mega
festival Sziget in Hungary keeps it too.
So look for me at Arise. I’ll be
shooting a promo video for my new boho style
harem pants store http://www.karmicwear.com If you want to model some awesome pants in it, I’ll
whip mine off right there & give them to you!! (here’s 25% off code “ARISE” if you
    want a clean pair haha)
